Weight loss! How can i do it?

Losing weight is something that many people desire for different reasons, especially for aesthetic reasons. Most people would like to have a "perfect" figure like the ones shown in commercials and others in television programming and movies. Others, usually a smaller percent of population, would like to lose weight for health reasons.
Certainly, though aesthetic reasons is a huge factor, but good health is much more important one.

Many people want to lose weight, but the problem is that lose weight seems like a very dificult process, because weight loss require to make a decision and be constant in that decision, and you need some determination and commitment with your self if you want the success. But the truth is lose weight is not supposed to be something hard,in fact could be more easy of what you think if you understand the process of exercise, diets and eating habits. In that direction we will go to share some information about that to help you in this process.

Some people consider exercise as an option to lose weight, but is very hard to begin with an exercise routine when somebody is overweight. You should begin with something basic or easier like a walk in the park, later when the body

hydrate will adapt to that activity then you can continue with more exercise. In exercise the oxygen is an important element and factor in the burning of calories and fats, the more oxygen you can inhale in your exercise routine the more benefit you will receive in losing weight. Also you can take a little but constants mini glasses of water to get hydrate during the routine, because the first 20 minutes of exercise you eliminates only water, then after of the first 20 minutes is when you begin to eliminate fats.

Is important to understand how the body reacts to this process, especially when dieting, there are lot of diets we are going to mention some of them:

-The protein diet; in this case the problem is that the body needs others types of nutrients like the carbohydrates to maintain the regular glucose blood levels.

-The vegetarian diets and Macrobiotic diet; This is perhaps a good alternative for weight loss, but not every body is preparing for this kind of lifestyle.

-The low calories diet; This one is a very popular, but many people don't get the desire results. The reason for that is because if you ingest less calories the metabolism has the capacity to adjust itself to this process in  your body and only burning the same amount of calories ingested this day.

Another important aspect to consider is your eating habits because weight loss is about changing your lifestyle. The reason for that is because part of your lifestyle is generating all those extra pounds. Maybe is not what your thinking, but the solution is in your diet and eating habits. Its important to understand that diet is a very diverse concept, talking about diet and f ood is talking about a great menu of diversity and variety, also what are the body needs in terms of nutrition? There a lot a nutrients that the body need and for that reason eating less is not a solution for that.

In terms of diet you also need to consider that the foods have different types of calories and nutrients and depending the type of food and the moment are ingested, have different effects in the body, one of them is reflected in the weight. For that reason is important what you eat and  when to having a better eating habit. Change eating habits is one of the main keys to begin lose weight.

Natural Health Therapies and Cancer - Part II

This article is part of a series on Natural Health Therapies and Cancer. The material presented is meant to inform you of complementary cancer therapies that are available in the medical community. These therapies are to be used in cooperation with other cancer treatment methods. They are not meant to be done in place of your physician's care. In the last article, we covered the basics of cancer – what it is, what causes it, what are its various types and stages. This article will focus on the aspect of Dietary Changes and Nutritional Supplements as a form of cancer therapy.

Aside from tobacco and smoking, there is no greater factor for triggering and promoting cancer than diet and nutrition. When used correctly, diet and nutrition are also the factors that have the highest ability to reverse cancer. According to the National Academy of Sciences, 40% of all cancer in men may be directly related to diet. The statistics are even worse for women; 60% of all c ancers in women may be linked to nutritional factors.

As I've pointed out in other articles, what we eat is important to our health. Equally important is what we don't eat. Our society has turned from a natural, raw food diet to a highly processed and refined diet. The average American meal consists of high-fat, high-protein, low-fiber foods in oversized portions. Our fast-paced society even calls some of them a 'Value Meal.' Where's the value? The nationwide increase in cancer has been parallel to the decline in our eating habits.

Several areas of our society's diet are excessive. In clinical studies, these excesses have been found to significantly increase cancer risks. The key sections of the American diet that contribute to cancer are:
· Excessive intake of animal protein (meat, cheese, dairy) – can increase the risk for cancer in the breast, colon, pancreas, kidney, prostate, and endometrium; certain preparation and cook ing techniques (such as pickling, smoking, frying) add to the cancer risks; fatty meats contain higher levels of carcinogenic pesticides

· Intake of contaminated fish – mercury, nickel, oil, and PCBs found in many marketplace fish; 1/10 of a teaspoon of PCBs is enough to cause illness or cancer

· Excessive fat intake – can increase risk for cancer of the breast, colon, rectum, uterus, prostate, and kidney; partially hydrogenated vegetable oils are considered major problems along with insufficient intake of healthy Omega-3 fats

· Excessive intake of refined carbohydrates and table sugar – lowers immune system function; elevates insulin levels (which can promote breast cancer); tumors thrive in a high-glucose environment

· Excessive intake of iron – associated with red meat, fortified breads and pastas; cooking in iron pots and skillets can add to your iron exposure

· Excessive intake of alcohol – can increase risk for cancer in the breast, mouth, throat, pancreas, liver, head and neck; alcohol suppresses Natural Killer cells that help repel cancer

· Excessive intake of caffeine – cancer rates are higher for those who drink more than 3 cups of coffee a day; caffeine can cause DNA damage, adding to cancer risk

Although it looks like our diets doom us to destruction, there are steps we can take to reduce the cancer risk. Here are some ways to combat and prevent cancer through some simple changes in your diet –
· Eat more fruits and vegetables

· Drink green tea, fresh juices

· Eat nuts, seeds, legumes

· Avoid all red meats, dairy products, eggs and shellfish

· Avoid refined, sugary foods

· Avoid caffeine and alcohol

· Avoid all vegetable oils especially hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils

· Use olive, pumpkin seed, flaxseed, wa lnut, and sesame oils

· Avoid margarine, fried foods, creamy sauces and dressings

· Eat salmon, halibut, red snapper, and flounder for healthy Omega-3 fats

· Avoid cooking in iron or aluminum cookware

· Use stainless steel or glass cookware

· Avoid microwave use, particularly with plastic containers

· Eat organically-grown foods when possible

More advanced nutritional therapies include Vegan and Macrobiotic diets. These nutritional
regimens consist of raw, natural foods and specific food preparation techniques. These diets are used to help cleanse the digestive system, allowing the elimination of excessive toxins.

Nutritional supplements can play a major role in cancer prevention and cancer therapy. There are many different approaches being practiced successfully. For example, antioxidants, such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Alpha-Lipoic-Acid combat the free radical damage associated with cancer. Sea vegetables such as kombu are linked to a lower breast cancer rate in Japanese women. Garlic appears to boost the Natural Killer cell function and block cancer cells in the bloodstream. Certain types of digestive enzymes can be used to break down the protective coating on certain cancer cells. Minerals such as selenium, magnesium, calcium, and zinc are also used in varying dosages for certain cancer therapies.

As you may know, my PhD research is on the connection between nutrition and health. I'm concentrating on the importance of 8 basic carbohydrates called glyconutrients that help the cells communicate properly. 'Glyco' means sugar and these 8 simple sugars are involved in every cell interaction. The relatively new scientific field of glycobiology is making amazing discoveries on the impact of these simple sugars on our health. The studies show that many of these glyconutritional sugars, such as fucose, inhibit growth and/or tumor cell metastasis in certain cancers. The inhibition of cancer growth by glyconutritional sugars, such as mannose, appears to be partially related to immune system activation of Natural Killer cells, the white blood cell that destroys cancer cells. Research also demonstrates that glyconutritional sugars appear to inhibit tumor cell metastasis by preventing the attachment of tumor cells to normal cells. They do this by competing for glyconutritional sugar binding sites on the cell surfaces.

I personally know individuals that have had outstanding results against cancer with the use of these nutrients. Various glyconutrients are traditionally found in mother's breast milk, pectin from apples and oranges, specific types of mushrooms, and limu. However, most of these glyconutrients are not in our diets. Luckily, our bodies can manufacture many of these nutrients through a lengthy metabolic process. Unfortunately, th e effects of stress, medications, and other environmental factors make this process difficult and prone to errors. For that reason as well as the nutrition lost from the over-processing of our foods, the only way to insure that you get all 8 glyconutrients is through nutritional supplements. For additional information on glyconutritional supplements, you may also refer to material posted at www.glycoscience.com or at www.glycoinformation.com. You can also research these nutrients on PubMed under glycobiology or by name of the sugar such as fucose, mannose, etc.

Best Eating Habits to Maintain Health and Wellness

Cutting-Edge News Room

Everyone these days it seems is on a diet. There are organic diets and raw food diets and macrobiotic diets. There is the Atkins diet. Some people believe you should eat 3 meals a day and some people believe you should combine your foods so that you eat fruits at a certain time of day and carbohydrates at a different time of day.

What is the best diet for you to maintain proper health and wellness?

Individual Biochemistry and Health

One thing is important for everyone to understand about health whether they are a raw food fan or a fan of some other diet. Every person has their own unique biochemistry. That means their body will react in its own unique way to the foods a person puts in their mouth, no matter what type of eating plan and diet they adopt.

That means no two people will react to food the same way, whether they eat 3 times a day or 6, whether they eat fruits in the mo rning or protein. What this means is that each individual must adopt their own structured eating plan, one that accommodates their own unique biochemistry and lifestyle.

You can only know what is best for you by experimenting to find out how your body reacts to eating different ways and different foods.

How to Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle

The best way to maintain good health is to adopt a lifestyle of eating foods in a way that preserves optimal health. Optimal health is living a life relatively free from major disease and living a life that is full of energy and wellness emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Some people find that eating raw foods suits them best because it allows them to sustain proper energy and allows them to get the fiber they need to maintain regularity. They may also find that eating six mini meals each day, combining a certain ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, suits them best.

Others may find tha t eating fruits separate from protein seems to sit better with their body's unique biochemistry. Still others may find the acidity of certain fruits causes them to feel unwell and develop diarrhea. This is because certain people have allergies to citrus fruits.

Others may find the develop cavities despite their good eating habits and tendency to brush between meals. This is because even healthy organic foods can contain few varied minerals and lots of sugar (some fruits for example) so if you eat too much of one thing, you may develop tooth decay for example.

This raises one good point about good health – if you want to maintain proper health, it is vital to your health that you eat a diversified diet.

Eating Diverse Foods for Proper Health

One concept about food that is generally true for most people is this – the more diversified your diet, the more likely you are to be fit and well. People that eat foods from a variety of sources, whether plant or other, are more likely to be healthy than people that eat a rather homogenous diet.

No one plant contains all of the vitamins, proteins, trace minerals and amino acids (and the like) that a person needs to maintain proper health. This is one reason it is important you diversify your diet. If you always eat a piece of cantaloupe for breakfast you may not be getting all of the vitamins and minerals you need from your diet.

Why not try cantaloupe a couple of days each week, and then try some peanut butter other days during the week and perhaps some seeds and different fruits different days of the week?

The more diverse your eating habits, the more likely you are to maintain your energy levels and to stave off any cravings for unhealthy foods. Often people experience food cravings because their body becomes deficient in one or more vitamins or minerals. So be sure you avoid this by stocking up on plenty of different foods. One way to do this is to try to ea t foods of a different color each day on your plate.

If you eat three different foods on your plate, make sure they are all three different colors; this way you know they all contain different nutrients that will serve your body well.

More Water Please!

Finally, one of the best ways to maintain your health is by drinking plenty of water. Most people don't realize by the time they feel thirsty they are already too dehydrated. You should never get to a point where you feel thirsty. Instead, drink plenty of water during the day so you always maintain hydration.

If you feel the taste of water is too boring, why not try to spice up your water with a few cucumber slices or orange rinds? This always adds a bit of excitement and fun to the day. Still other people find adding several flavors like lime and orange, or cucumber and lemon to their water an excellent fix to something that is ordinarily to bland to tolerate.

If you really must you can add a little carbonation to your water, but keep in mind carbonated drinks can sometimes cause fluid retention, not something most people searching for good health want in their diet!

One thing that all can agree on. Keep your diet simple and varied!

Sincerely yours,

Omid

Gwyneth Paltrow

Copyright (c) 2009 Dawn McIntyre

Last month, I was horrified by the reaction singer and reality star Jessica Simpson?s slightly fuller figure generated in the media. This month, the internet is buzzing with another topic near and dear to the hearts of those who believe the way to feel good about yourself is to tear other people down. Their latest target is blonde, beautiful actress Gwyneth Paltrow, best known for her Oscar-winning role in ?Shakespeare in Love?. Her crime? Daring to share her lifestyle secrets in a blog.

In case you haven?t seen it, and I would venture to say the majority of her critics have not, Paltrow?s blog, called Goop, is basically a collection of tips based on the type of lifestyle she lives ? one where she is privileged enough to be able to make very precise choices about what she eats, how she exercises and how she lives her life. Clearly, these choices work for her ? it would be hard to look at her shining hair, glowing skin and perfec t figure and see anything but a beautiful woman. And clearly those choices wouldn?t be right for everyone ? not all of us have the money for personal trainers, the time and dedication to devote to internal ?cleansing? and the patience (and taste buds) for a macrobiotic diet.

But the level of anger and ridicule the actress as been subjected to simply for sharing things that make her feel good and beautiful has really taken me off guard. And after last month?s savaging of Jessica Simpson, it got me thinking ? how many of us are building self esteem at the expense of others? And more importantly, why do people do that?

I have dedicated my life to trying to help women achieve both inner beauty and outer beauty. And nothing is as out of step with both of those goals than confidence building in the form of tearing other people down. Making comparative statements like ?at least I?m thinner than so and so? or ?wow, so and so has really aged? may make you feel good moment arily, but focusing negative energy on other people can stunt your spiritual growth. After all, true beauty comes from being the best you can be ? both inside and out ? not from comparing yourself to another person and declaring yourself superior.

I believe the true way to build confidence is to build the women around you up rather than tear them down. We should all feel free and encouraged to share our gifts with the world, whatever they are, and regardless of who in the world might not like or respond to them.

The tips and tricks in Gwyneth Paltrow?s blog may not be right for you, or even for most women struggling to get by in the world today. But I believe we should be celebrating a beautiful, successful woman?s effort to share her positive energy with anyone who is interested, rather than tearing her down. After all, if you?re not interested in what she has to say, no one is forcing you to read it.

And if you are interested in trying a macrobiotic clean sing diet, some of her recipes actually sound yummy.

Food For Your Body Mind

Ok, so how many times have we heard it, "You are what you eat!!!" Well, maybe it's because it's a fact - if you eat good wholesome, healthy foods that feed the body, not just the tastebuds, you feel great! Foods that have had the goodness taken out of them via bleaching and processing, then crammed with preservatives or chemical additives ARE NOT NOURISHING FOR OUR BODIES AT ALL.

Do you realise that by feeding your body the wrong foods it will simply lower your energy, lay down fat, lower your sex drive and even your brain power! One way to look at it is, as spiritual beings we have been provided with this vehicle to get around in for the duration of our earthly experience, we need to look after it so we can fulfil our life purpose to our greatest potential.

We may not have total control over all aspects of our life, mind issues involving subconscious programming is much less within our conscious control, but the food we nourish our bodies with we can take 100% responsibility for! Organic foods of course are the ideal choice, grown without any pesticides and chemicals, but the fact that they are usually that bit more expensive puts them out of reach for a lot of individuals, that's OK, just do the best we can by eating as much fresh, raw foods like salads, fruit, nuts, seeds, legumes etc and make sure to wash them well before preparation to remove any chemical residue. Living foods are raw foods, still in their original state and containing their food enzymes. As soon as food is cooked, it loses these enzymes and some of it's nutrients, this is why fresh is best.

A macrobiotic diet is a vegetarian diet consisting of brown rice, green vegies, seeds, seaweeds, beans and lots of soy or miso products. Eating a macrobiotic diet has in instances been what seemed to be the cure for cancer, as in the case of a lady who had been diagnosed with cancer and given 2 weeks to live. After one month of being fed this di et she was much stronger and after 2 months she felt that she was no longer ill. After a thorough medical check she was found to be absolutely clear of all signs of her cancer. Eat in this way and you will be feeding your soul, as well as every cell in the physical body!

From a spiritual point of view, all of these products have a higher vibration than cooked and processed foods. By feeding our bodies in this way we are raising our own vibrations, an ambition of anyone on their spiritual journey.

The food we eat is fuel to our body just as deisel and petrol are to a car. Put in the wrong fuel and the car stops running smoothly, continue to do this for long enough and the car stops running at all.

EAT WELL AND FEEL GREAT!!

A Natural Look To Dog Health

With more and more people turning to holistic health remedies for themselves it is no surprise that they are seeking the same for their canine confidants. People love their dogs and want them to live the best lives possible and are seeking treatments once reserved for people only. Holistic dog care aims to treat the whole animal rather than merely a set of symptoms and includes homeopathic remedies, acupuncture and nutritional therapy.

Homeopathic remedies are becoming more popular in pets and people and are the opposite of traditional Veterinary care which relies on chemical-based medicines. Homeopathic treatment requires administration of heavily diluted and distilled doses of certain substances such as wolf's bane, oysters, cinchona plants and other natural ingredients to boost the immune system. An overall health history is taken and a homeopathic Veterinarian creates a plan of specific dosages to treat the whole animal, not merely the symptoms of one cond ition. Remedies are also created from diseased fecal matter, blood and tissue samples. The diluted doses of these materials often contain none of the original material upon dosage. While some owners swear by homeopathic remedies for their dogs, the FDA has not approved these methods for Veterinary use. Clinical trails have proved inconclusive for this method of holistic care; however, it continues to increase in popularity.

Another popular holistic treatment for dogs is acupuncture. Acupuncture is an ancient medical treatment practiced for over 5,000 years beginning in the Stone Age in China with fish bones used as needles. Acupuncture was once popular in the United States; however, it slipped into obscurity with the wide spread use of antibiotics in the 1940s. The majority of modern Veterinary text books now contain information on acupuncture. Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles into certain pressure points within the body in effort to relieve pain by i ncreasing the flow of energy within the whole body. Acupuncture is used in the treatment of a variety of canine health problems including respiratory conditions, dermatological, gastrointestinal and immune-mediated disorders. While westerners find it hard to explain; there is irrefutable proof supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture in people as well as dogs. Whether you choose to use it in conjunction with regular Veterinary care, as exclusive treatment or as a last ditch efforts when other methods have failed; it is a valid and respected treatment method amongst Veterinarians and their owners.

Perhaps the most popular holistic treatment for dogs includes nutritional therapy. Nutrition experts suggest that the modern Western diet is responsible for many of the diseases and illnesses in modern society. Nutritional therapy in dogs suggests a return to a macrobiotic diet and a departure from commercially processed dog foods. The earliest recorded use of a macrob iotic diet was found in the writings of Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine. Macrobiotic type diets for dogs include a combination of 1/3 each of brown rice, lean meat and vegetables. Therapists also suggest feeding the proper combination of vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. These natural diets are thought to prevent some of the diseases caused by over processed commercial dog foods including hypertension, heart disease and skin disorders. These diets are time consuming to prepare, but many owners are making the leap in reaction to wide spread pet food recalls caused by toxic materials found in dozens of popular dog food brands.

Other popular holistic methods gaining popularity include hypnotherapy and massage. When deciding on a course of treatment, make sure to get several opinions and consider all of your options. While some of these methods are not proven effective; others are and should be considered as valid courses of tr eatment. While it is easy to point out the shortcomings of medicine based treatment, dogs are living longer lives than ever because of them.

5 Super Foods For a Healthy, Energetic Body

Would you like to know about some super foods that will get you healthy and your body energized? That's what I thought. Some of these foods you may already eat and that's great. It's not hard getting healthy. What makes getting healthy difficult is the motivation factor and making eating healthy a lifestyle.

Are we relying too much on vitamin supplements rather than the real thing?  Did you know that many of the nutrients we receive from the foods we eat come from raw fruits and vegetables? This is why it is very important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables in our diet to ensure nutritional balance.

Mega Vitamins From Food and The Sun

* Grow your own sprouts /wheat grass – alfalfa sprouts are super foods. They are packed with life-giving nutrients. Alfalfa sprouts taste good in salads and sandwiches. Some sprouts such as the wheat berry sprout can be mixed with dried fruit, and because of their nutty flavor, make it a perfect nutritious, energy filled snack.

Tip: There is strong evidence to support that wheat grass juice (sprouts that have grown into grass) eaten daily while on a macrobiotic diet can prevent disease and heal certain cancers.

* Eat a dark leafy green salad once a day - whether you eat spinach greens, kale, swiss chard, collard greens, broccoli, and mustard greens it doesn't matter. What matters is the greens are raw or only lightly steamed. Never boil greens! Once you boil greens I would compare it to taking a vitamin supplement. Dark greens are best for health when eaten raw. They have vitamins A, C, and K, iron, calcium, and folate. They are also great sources of fiber.

* Juice fruits and vegetables – juicing fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to get mega amounts of antioxidants. Investing in a good juicer is well worth the money and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in taking care of his or her health to buy a juicer. If your budget is not ready to buy a brand new one then you can find a used juicer at thrift stores for around $5 bucks.

Tip: add a couple of cloves of garlic to the juicer and you will prevent sickness. (Garlic is a natural antibiotic)

* Eat a handful of nuts and seeds daily – raw almonds, coconuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, walnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds are nutritionally packed with goodness. These nuts are very nutritious and have good fat (monosaturated) the body needs for lowering cholesterol.

Tip: Pairing nuts with dried fruits such as raisins, figs, prunes and dates, make a delicious energy based snack for anyone on the go. Vitamin supplements? Who needs those?

* Eat two or three pieces of whole, organic raw fruit a day – this isn't really as hard to do as you might think. Bring fruit with you to work. First thing in the mornin g eat a piece of fruit or a handful of grapes or other berry. At midday have another piece of fruit and right before bed.

Tip: Always eat fruit on an empty stomach. Pomegranates, berries, grapes, apricots and the seeds of these fruits are full of antioxidants and disease prevention properties. Juice the seeds right along with the skins.

* Get plenty of sunshine on your skin – This is the best way, and in my opinion, the only way to receive Vitamin D into our system properly. Why are we so afraid of the sun? Because people have abused it, and now we're afraid of it. We absolutely NEED sunshine on our skin. Stop wearing sunscreen if you can voluntarily get out of the sun! Not getting enough sun is making people sick

When you first go out into the sun for the season, don't sit or lay in it for three hours and burn. Work your skin up to getting used to the suns rays. Only bathe for 15 minutes for the first week. Then on the se cond week bathe for ½ hour. The third week bathe for a little bit longer.

Skin cancer is caused from abuse of the sun. Just like all illness and disease is caused from abuse of something. If we take too many vitamins we'll get sick from them. Everything that we do in life, even if it is good for us, should be done in moderation.

Tip: Being in the sun is how the body absorbs calcium in the body properly, so in actuality, it is two vitamins that we receive from getting adequate amounts of sun on our skin. Incorporate the above list into your lifestyle and have a healthy, energetic body!

Food is Your Best Medicine or Your Poison

Food is your best medicine. Or, more accurately, the right food choices can be powerful medicine for the mind and body. A lot of people are aware of this to one degree or another, but they don't always act on the knowledge or use it to their benefit in the fullest extent. Everything we put into our body has an effect of one kind or another. Junk foods, refined food, processed foods, foods high in sugar or laden with pesticides, herbicides, preservatives and additives... these all tend to have an adverse effect on the health and wellness of our body both physically and emotionally. Healthy foods that were given to us by Mother Nature, like whole fruits and vegetables, herbs and nuts and seeds can be much more than excellent sources of vitamins and nutrition. Many of them, can also help us fight or prevent a wide variety of health conditions or syndromes and some may even prevent or cure diseases.

Many people are beginning to realize how important their choices in foods really are as more and more research is being done to explore the impact foods have on our health. It is estimated that at least one third of American adults will now try to address their health concerns by using food. However, instead of just looking at how nutritious the foods are or whether they are low in bad fats, people have started looking at the bigger picture. They're now buying foods which will help contribute to their overall level of health instead of looking for one miracle food that will heal everything.

For many years, health researchers were focused on trying to identify which primary constituent in a food was responsible for it's healthy properties. In time, what became apparent is that there is no one miracle constituent. The best health and wellness benefits from food come from a variety of elements within each particular food. Isolating just one factor won't give you the same results as eating the whole food will, and this is why the re are no true miracle drugs or vitamins on the market to buy. If you want all the health benefits that garlic or blueberries have to offer for example, then you need to actually eat the garlic and berries on a regular basis.

Hundreds of studies also reveal that it isn't just one food all by itself that is the healthiest, the nutrients in food work together to promote health and heal chronic health conditions. So it is now understood that eating a wide variety of healthy foods is much more important than one or two independently. For example, combining the healing benefits of carrots, broccoli and garlic is much more beneficial than just one. Eating a balanced meal that contains meat, complex carbohydrates, vegetables and fruit is healthier than one of them alone.

We know without a doubt, that the types of foods we eat plays a vital a role in maintaining optimal mental and physical health and it is also critical for helping to prevent and heal chron ic health problems, diseases, and syndromes.

On the other hand, a food that is your best medicine for one person can also be a poison for another. We are each unique biochemically and metabolically. Different people need different things. It all depends on your particular body chemistry. Additionally, different illnesses, conditions or diseases have a different impact on nutritional needs and may result in limits that a healthier person doesn't face.

For example, a diet that is healthy and beneficial for someone with diabetes may be completely different from someone living with asthma. Some body types do well with a vegetarian, raw or macrobiotic diet, while other body types need meat protein to function optimally and do best with steamed veggies.

Although certain dietary guidelines like removing sugar, white flour, caffeine, pesticides, herbicides, food additives and preservative will be beneficial to us all, other factors are more ind ividualized. Part of designing a healthy diet is getting to know your body and what it needs. There is not a "one size fits all diet" and not all foods are created equally. Your diet should take into account the following factors:

- your overall level of health
- health conditions you may have
- what are you trying to achieve
- the integrity of your gastrointestinal tract
- food allergies or food sensitivities

One of the problems that many people face, is that they don't really know there bodies or what it needs. Approximately 80% of the population has undiagnosed food sensitivities that they are not aware of. Hidden food sensitivities are often at the root of many health conditions or syndromes as well as psychological symptoms.

So, for example, garlic or whole grains may be a Superfood for a person without sensitivities, but for another person with undiagnosed sensitivities, it can unknowingly be the root of th eir arthritis, migraine, sinus congestion, heart burn, headaches, irritable bowel, fatigue, chronic pain, insomnia or even depression, anxiety, hyperactivity or autism and more.

A person without sensitivities may derive benefits for their colon with a diet rich in whole grains, while someone who is sensitive to gluten or grains may find that these foods are at their root of their irritable bowel or gas and bloating.

One person can thrive and benefit from the vitamins and minerals in fruits high in sugar, while for another it may be the cause of their anxiety attacks and depression.

It is crucial when choosing the foods you will include in your diet, to know which foods are the best choices for you and your body. Food is your best medicine, but only when it meets your unique biochemical and metabolic needs. By designing a diet that is right for your body chemistry, you can make significant improvements in your physical and psychological health.

Gwyneth actually follows a healthy eating plan that resembles Oprah's, avoiding sugar and white flour. She usually follows a macrobiotic diet, eating foods like vegetables, brown rice, and lean meat. She also eliminated products containing dairy from her diet, and does yoga every day.

Alternative Medicine for Treating Cancer

Cancer is the name given to any illness resulting from one of our body's own cells growing out of control. There are many processes that control a cell's growth and division, each of which can go wrong. Several of these control mechanisms need to be damaged before a cell becomes cancerous. There are more than 200 different types of cancers, which are categorized in to carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma and leukemia based on the cells from which they arise.

The principles involved in treating cancer are either directly destroying the cancer tissues or indirectly destroying them by depriving them of blood supply and/or their nutrition. But the irony is that whatever conventional treatment is used to destroy cancer cells do affect to some extent the normal cells also. They may damage the skin, liver, intestine the bone marrow and other rapidly multiplying cells. Sometimes the effect of the treatment is more devastating than the disease itself.

Role of Alte rnative Medicine in treating cancer
A larger study of Alternative medicine use in patients with different types of cancer was published in the July 2000 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. It was found that nearly 70% of the patients used at least one form alternative medicine along with the conventional treatment. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) are sponsoring a number of clinical trials at medical centers to evaluate alternative medical therapies for cancer.

Alternative medicine includes therapies like herbal remedies, vitamins, special diets, and acupuncture among others.
Acupuncture: effective in the management of chemotherapy associated nausea and vomiting and in controlling pain associated with surgery. Now used in a trial to reduce the symptoms of colorectal cancer

-Homeopathy
-Ayurveda
-Shark cartilage: Being tried in non-small cel l lung cancer. it prevents new blood vessels growth
-Hyperbaric oxygen: In patients who had larynx removed for larynx cancer
-Massage therapy: for cancer related fatigue
-Pancreatic enzyme therapy along with specialized diet for the treatment of pancreatic cancer
-Mistletoe extract: for the treatment of solid tumors
-Wheatgrass therapy
-Macrobiotics: The macrobiotic diet is strictly vegetarian and requires you to consume about half of your daily calories from whole grains, about a quarter of your calories from vegetables, and the rest of your calories from beans, seaweed and soups
-Bioelectric therapies
-Moerman's Anti-Cancer diet
-Hoxsey herbal therapy
-Essiac herbal therapy: Essiac is a herbal tea mixture that relieves pain and reduces the size of tumors. It contains four herbs- burdock, rhubarb, sheep sorrel and slippery elm
-Pau D'Arco herbal therapy
-Chaparral herbal therapy
-Laetrile (amygdal in): a chemical found in lima beans, raw nuts and the pits of many fruits. Amygdalin produces cyanide, which proponents claim kills cancer
-Alkaline diet: such as fruits and vegetables and restricting acidic foods
-Antioxidant found in fruits and vegetables
-Vitamins A, C and E: These are very good anti oxidants
-Detox therapies including Gonzales nutritional metabolic therapy, colon therapy, and Gerson therapy
The most successful practitioners integrate various components of the alternative cancer treatments for a better outcome.

Vegetarianism Guide to Types of Vegetarians

Usually, when you think of vegetarians, you think of people who avoid eating any type of animal flesh including beef, pork, lamb, poultry, fish, etc. There are several types and variations to vegetarianism. While many of the vegetarians are lacto ovo vegetarians who will everything but any kind of meat, some others will avoid eating eggs and dairy products and others will say no to beef, pork and poultry but will include fish and other seafood in their diet.

1) Lacto Ovo Vegetarians:
The most common type of vegetarians is the lacto ovo vegetarians. Lacto is the Latin word for milk and ovo means eggs in Latin. The lacto ovo vegetarian do not eat any kind of meat including beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish, etc. However, they will eat dairy products and eggs.

The lacto ovo vegetarian category is divided into two categories:
a) A Lacto Vegetarian does not eat meat and eggs but does eat dairy foods.
b) An Ovo Vegetarian does not eat meat and dairy products but does eat eggs.

2) Pescatarias:
The pescatarian or pescetarian are vegetarians who avoid eating meat but will continue eating fish and shellfish. The rationales behind the pescatarian diet are varied. Many choose this lifestyle for health concerns rather than ethical reasons. While others would claim that the fish industry is less cruel than the meat industry. Others will simply justify their decision by arguing that fish are less intelligent than farm animals.

Dedicated vegetarians would put the pescatarian under the category of semi vegetarians. In the same category you can find the pollo vegetarians who will include poultry in their diet, the flexitarianism who will avoid eating meat that derived from an animal that was brought up and died in cruel conditions. The flexitarianism are similar to the freeganism that would not mind eating any type of meat unless any part of its process involved environmental dama ge or human or animals exploitation.

3) Vegans:
They do not consume any product that was derived from animals including, of course, any kind of meat, fish, dairy products, eggs as well as honey and foods that contain gelatin. Some vegans would not touch cane sugar, beer and wine since animal products involve in the finishing process: cane sugar is filtered with bone char and some beer and wines are clarified with egg white. As part of the vegan ideology, vegans would not consume products made of leather, furs, pearls, etc.

4) Raw Vegans:
Also called raw foodists limit themselves to unprocessed food that has not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 46 degrees Celsius. Therefore, their diet mainly consists of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. However, some of the raw foodists do consist raw food that was derived from animals in their diet including raw eggs, unheated dairy products and sushi.

5) Macrobiotics:
The macrobiotic diet is part of the macrobiotic methodology that was originated in Japan. The macrobiotics practitioners follow strict diet rules based on the principle of balance between yin and yang. The macrobiotic diet is based on whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and soy products. They are allowed to include seaweed and certain types of fish in their diet.

Fasting For Weight Loss – The Untouchable Master Cleanse Diet Plan Exposed!

Historically, fasting is a way that religious people prepared for a ceremony, or High Holy Day.  It was to make the body pure for God. This type of fasting, still done today in many religions, lasts hours or at the most a few days. However, many people have taken the weight loss that comes with not eating, and transferred it to a new diet trend: fasting for weight loss.

This has culminated in what we now know as the Master Cleanse Diet - also known as the Lemonade Diet or the Maple Syrup Diet. But, did you know that the Master Cleanse was not actually a diet in the beginning?

That's right. It started out as a way to eliminate toxins from the body, to detox, as we say now. Lasting as long as a month and a half, the idea is to subsist on nothing more than glasses of a concoction made from water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. It's actually not a fast at all, since you are putting something in your body.

The lemon juice act s as the cleanser; the maple syrup is to give your body the energy it needs. No one ever talks about the cayenne pepper, for some reason.

It stands to reason that ingesting nothing but what amounts to lemonade for up to weeks at a time will make you lose weight.  However, let's take a look at some of the facts.

1.    You can't do the Master Cleanse forever. Your body needs a wide variety of vitamins, nutrients and minerals in order to survive, let alone thrive.  Eventually, you're going to have to eat food.

2.    This is not a suitable long-term weight management program.  As soon as you do eat food, you're going to gain weight - even if you plan on drastically altering your daily diet, to raw foods, macrobiotic foods, or strict veganism.

3.    When your body has not had any solid foods for this long, there is a pretty good chance that your digestive tract will cease passing food, which makes for bad constipati on and painful bowel movements.

4.    Doctors do not recommend the Master Cleanse diet, and many health officials go so far as to say it's dangerous to your health.

Beyond these facts, it's just plain boring! There are so many other ways to lose weight and feel great that allow you to also enjoy delicious meals and feel full and satisfied.

That being said, there is no harm in doing the Master Cleanse for a day, or two. It can give you the jump-start, or to give you motivation, to make a clean break from unhealthy habits. But, as a diet plan, fasting for weight loss does not make good sense.

Diet - is Meat Really Good for Us? What Happens When We Eat Meat? Find Out.

Meat

When we look at our diet and what is good and bad for us, it is always beneficial to look at the way our ancestors used to eat. What has been eaten for 100,000s of years has determined the ability of our body to digest certain food. It will take another few thousand years (at best) before our body is able to digest the junk food some people ingest nowadays.

Prior to the Second World War, meat was expensive and most people only ate it on special occasions or at weekends (if they could afford it). Nowadays, some people eat meat several times a week. Sometimes, several times a day. Mr Richard McDonald and Ray Kroc have probably killed more people than were killed during the Second World War by introducing their fast food restaurants.

Should we really eat meat?

To answer this question, let's consider the following facts:

* Our teeth tell us that we should not eat much meat. Our molars and premolars are for g rinding and crushing. Carnivores have teeth that are sharp and pointed, made to tear the flesh of other animals.

* Our saliva contains ptyalin and is alkaline for the digestion of starches. Carnivore's saliva is acid for the digestion of animal food.

* Our digestive system is 30 feet (10 metres) in length to allow the slow absorption of all the nutrients we eat. A carnivore's digestive system is short (only about 3 times the length of their trunk), meat does not get a chance to stagnate and stick to the walls.

* A carnivore's stomach generates ten times as much hydrochloric acid as ours does for the digestion of meat.

* The digestion of meat generates Uric acid. Our liver cannot easily eliminate Uric acid. A carnivore's liver can eliminate ten to fifteen times more Uric acid than ours can.

Where will I get my protein?

This is a standard question when I tell people to cut down or entirely give meat. First, we must learn that we do not just absorb protein from meat. In order for our body to create protein from meat, it must first break the animal protein down into amino acids and then manufacture human protein with these. This procedure is very tiring on the body and extremely inefficient.

Where do you think horses, elephants, cows, sheep etc.. get their protein from? Yes, you've got it: from the grass, vegetation and all the plants they eat.

Secondly, let's clear the misconception about the importance of protein in our diet. The information originates from tests that were conducted on rats. Rats need up to eleven times as much protein as we need in our diet as is illustrated by analysing rat mother's milk. So relax, you are not going to die from a lack of protein if you stop eating meat.

One of my main Macrobiotic teacher, Denny Waxman, used to tell us that the body manufactures protein from just about any food and that we could n ot be lacking protein unless we stopped eating or were malnourished. This is confirmed by research done in 1957 (Rose, W. "The amino acid requirements of adult man" - Nutritional abstracts and reviews) confirming that nearly all the complex carbohydrates, such as those in whole grains, beans or potatoes, have amino acid profile adequate for human protein needs.

On the subject of protein, it is interesting to learn that in Macrobiotic, we are also told that cancers feed on protein and that we always restrict the amount of protein in a cancer patient's diet.

Some will argue that fat is necessary because it is a source of linoleic acid. As this acid is also contained in brown rice, the body will get an ample supply by following the diet described in this book and this will not be a problem.

Where else can I get protein from?

If you are still worried about your protein intake, the following food has a high content of easily abs orbed amino acid suitable for the production of human protein: Peas, lentils, chick peas, kidney beans, fish, tofu, green grapes, iceberg lettuce, collards and kale.

What is the effect of meat on the body?

These days meat is usually frozen, overcooked and as such stripped of all its goodness. It gives an immediate burst of energy and strength. This is OK in colder and Polar Regions if you do not mix the meat with sweet (Yin) food, otherwise it is deadly.

An excess of meat will cause problems of accumulation of matter: clogged vessels and organs, putrefaction and infection. As soon as the animal is killed, meat starts to putrefy. This process is nowadays controlled by the use of freezing that allows us to eat animals killed several days, weeks, months or years (as recent TV programs informed us).

Putrefaction resumes when the meat is unfrozen i.e. just before you start eating it. To properly digest meat takes 3 to 5 days and as much as two weeks in the elderly. This is compared with a proper digestion time of one to one and half day for non-meat eaters.

Should you eat meat on a regular basis, your intestines are never clear and the meat putrefies in your digestive track. Putrefaction produces toxins and amines that accumulate in the liver, kidneys and large intestines, destroys bacterial cultures (especially those that synthesise vitamin B complex) and causes degeneration of the villi of the small intestine.

Saturated fatty acid accumulates in and around vital organs and blood vessels, often leading to cysts, tumours, and hardening of the arteries. Saturated fat also raises the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Over a period of several years, putrefied meat is going to adhere to the lining of your intestines and cause various problems such as IBS, stomach cramps, prolapsed colons, haemorrhoids, constipation, diverticulosis, appendicitis, varicose veins, atheroscleros is and colon cancer etc...

To compensate for eating meat, the body needs more oxygen in the bloodstream. The breathing rate rises after eating animal food making it difficult to maintain a calm mind. Thinking becomes defensive, suspicious, rigid and sometimes aggressive. A very analytical view is often the result.

It makes the muscles slack and the joints stiff. Daily consumption of meat and dairy food, is at the core of our excessive protein intake, which has been associated with de-hydration and heat-stroke in athletes, fatal exacerbation of kidney and liver malfunctions, increased acidity of body fluids, infant deaths, premature ageing, heart disease, and cancer. A high protein intake creates toxic by-products in the form of unused nitrogen; excreting these can seriously overtax the kidneys, unless large amounts of water are taker to flush them out.

The saturated fat content of meat will then start circulating in your blood stream an d start coating your arteries and eventually various organs eventually leading to the development of serious disease such as cancer or heart problems.

In the United states these days, 2 out of every 3 person suffers some form of serious problems related to that very high intake of fat.

"The average American & European intestine carries within it over 5 pounds of putrid, half digested red meat, plus another 5-10 pounds of foul toxic mucous waste impacted of years in the folds of the colon and small intestines."

When the actor John Wayne died, an autopsy revealed that his intestines had grown to 12" (30 cms) in diameter with only a small opening in the middle to allow the digestive process to painfully carry on.

What else is in the meat I eat?

This is one of the problems. Nowadays, the meat that you buy contains a lot of chemicals that you end up eating when you consume your favourite dish:

Antibioti cs and steroids in the feed to prevent infections and increase weight quickly. This has had the effect of causing the development of new disease breeding bacteria, resistant to many form of antibiotics and causing a threat to human life.

Sex hormones such as androgens, progestogens and estrogens to promote faster growth. The long term effects associated with the consumption of these are:

Obesity, infertility, diabetes, dwarfism, gigantism, kidney disease, hypertension, precocious puberty, hypoglycaemia, masculinisation of females, feminisation of males and cancer.

Blood Type and Diet – Weight Loss & Optimal Health

For years I had questions about connections between the immune system, diet, and disease. Through medical school and countless weekend seminars I learned about some of the most intricate workings of the human body.  Through practice and experience, I learned how to maintain our health and wellness. It is commonly understood by most patients and health professionals that our daily diet has an effect on our overall health and well being. Never did I hear exacting statements and scientific proof that explained HOW and WHY. Nutrition classes in schools teach about vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

Even long before I went to chiropractic school, I wandered from "here to there" wondering what the best "diet" might be.  Obviously I am talking about a nutrition regimen with a long-term health and wellness goal, and not necessarily about a diet to lose weight. Over the course of 12 years I tried every diet I learned about: the McDougall Diet, F it For Life, Macrobiotics, The Atkins Diet, Fasting, even vegetarianism for 2 1/2 years! You name the diet and I probably tried it!

In 1996 a colon therapist who I met mentioned to me that O blood types were mucous producers (I am O positive), and that there were great differences in blood types. She told me that there was a book or two around on the subject. I searched long and hard to find one, and the book I came across was by Dr. James D'Adamo. The book was called One Man's Food is Another Man's Poison (his son, Peter D'Adamo has since written more books on the subject). Dr. D'Adamo was a Naturopathic physician who practiced in Canada for decades. In the pages of his book I learned about his observations that there is a direct correlation to human blood and diet! Each of his chapters was followed by an anecdotal story describing people from all walks of life who followed his suggestions and rid themselves of some of the worst health problems known to hum ans. I was excited to learn about his observations to apply them in my life and in my practice.

In January 1997, a patient and friend of mine (whom I told about blood type and diet) told me that they had seen a book about just such a subject at a local department store. I was sure they were mistaken, as Dr. D'Adamo's original book was printed in 1981, was long since out of print and it took 3 months to find a copy through a used book store search! I asked the patient to pick me up a copy, and sure enough a few days later, I was holding a copy of Peter D'Adamo's (son of James) book Eat Right For Your Type.

The book was full of new information about how and why blood type and diet are correlated. It also contained detailed information about each of the four blood types A, B, AB and O. There were easy to use guides so people could remember which foods were best for their blood type, and they could greatly improve their health and wellness just by following these guides. The book blew me away. It was obvious to me that Peter had taken his fathers decades of observations and positive patient results and done the scientific research to back it up. He expanded the content and produced a book that I think in time will outshine most of the thousands of other health books that come and go every year.

A Brief Summary of the Concept of Blood Type and Diet:

Each blood cell has encoded proteins on its outer shell . These proteins are immune defense mechanisms called antigens. These blood antigens are used by the body to determine "friend or foe" when floating about the body. If the antigens come in contact with other proteins seen as foreign (such as on bacteria), the antigens create antibodies to fight off the intruder(s). Each blood type has a specific type of antigen unique to its own chemical structure. Your blood type is named for the antigen found on your red blood cells (A, B, AB and O).

The red blood cells not only interact with foreign organisms such as bacteria and viruses, but they also come in contact with proteins found on all foods. The foods that we eat also contain proteins called Lectins. When broken down and absorbed by the small intestine, these proteins are collected by red blood cells for distribution throughout the body. A chemical reaction takes place between your blood and the food you eat. Simply put, some lectins will interact positively with your blood, some will have a neutral effect and some will have a negative effect. What foods react in what way depends on ….you've got it! You r blood type!

Foods that have a negative effect in your body are the ones that have lectins that interact with your blood and create an immune response. The immune response leads to thickening of the blood and ultimately lowered health and immunity. Some of the symptoms experienced by people who regularly eat foods that are not within the suggested list for their type are: fatigue, allergies, joint pain and headaches.

There are many other important facts in Dr. D'Adamo's book. One of the one's that stood out the most was his statements about grains, particularly wheat and corn and how too much of them can destroy insulin sufficiency and thyroid production in the body. How many Americans are considered diabetic, pre-diabetic or hypothyroid? How many people are fatigued or overweight, experiencing joint pain, headaches, and allergies?

Ms. Car Johnson grew up in Los Angeles, California — the land of the size 0, where girls are known for being small and petite, but often fall victim to the celebrity=2 0diet fads that constantly plague Hollywood. "I was okay, but had to worry about how I would look on film. I don't have a naturally rail-like figure and had to work at what I did to begin with" she says. Ms Car Johnson attempted all sorts of diets such as Macrobiotic and high protein diet but melded a combination of several lifestyles to get the figure she was most proud of. She exposes the truth about how extreme diets just don't work "You can't do anything seven days a week without cracking. I finally figured out how to balance it out so that the 'binge and purge' end of a yo-yo diet doesn't exist." she adds.
Why the pin-up girl bit? Being in music, the author has had to pose for many a picture and has always admired the pin-up model from yesteryear. Her inspiration include pin up girls such as Betty Grable, Sophia Loren Racquel Welch Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe . Ms Car says'They didn't have fancy machines, specialty chefs and pre-prepared meals. They did not have personal trainers. They did it themselves, not having to rely on anyone or anything else."

Does the Low-carbohydrate Diet Work?

With slim people filling the catwalks and the red carpet premieres in boob tubes and magazine features, it is hard not to feel the urge to also lose those pounds and be able to wear the same dress or outfit as your favorite celebrities. These kinds of media coverages are perhaps the instigators for young America to shape up and slim down.

Because of the recent emphasis on slimness and thinness, a slew of diet programs have started to saturate the market. From nowhere, diet plans such as the Atkins Diet, the South Beach diet, the Macrobiotic, the cabbage soup, the Weight Watcher's Program and a lot more, have materialized.

Despite some of the criticisms hurled at these diet programs, most of them actually work. In fact, a lot of celebrities are faithful to some of these diet plans. Some even endorse the programs. Among the most popular and the most controversial are the low carbohydrate diets because of their positive and negative aspects.

Some criticize the diet plans as something that can lead to starvation. The lessening of carbohydrates in the diet and emphasis on proteins can hurt the liver in the long run. Some also do not like the fact that most of these diet plans have prepared and pre-packed foods given to the dieters, something which people find really dubious.

Still, compared to other diets, especially those that are unstructured, low carbohydrate diets are already pretty advantageous. In fact, among the kinds of diets in the market, low carb diets are the most successful perhaps because of their rate of effectiveness. Here are some of the advantages of these low carb diets.

No starvation

Compared to other kinds of diets, especially the unofficial self-made kind, low carbohydrate diets do not starve you. You will still eat three times a day. Sometimes, you can even eat some snacks. These diets do not believe in allowing their dieters not to eat sever al days in a row. They do not even countenance skipping of meals, something that most dieters do thinking that it will make them lose weight faster.

With low carbohydrate diets, dieters are asked to forego with carbohydrate-laded foods. Examples of these are rice, corn, bread, dairy products, egg, etc. For the first part of the diet, they are only allowed to eat proteins, meat, fish and of course vegetables.

Exercise

Some low-carb diets also incorporate a little bit of an exercise component. Although too much activity is also not good because of the low concentration of carbohydrates in the body, which supplies the energy, some form of exercise is also needed to improve blood circulation.

Support group

Another great thing about these low-carb diet programs is the fact that it provides its dieters a support group that will help them through their diet program. Some even provide counseling sessions especiall y to those who have to lose a lot of weight.

Pre-packed and balance meals

Most of these low carbohydrate diet programs have already prepared foods and meals that are supervised by dieticians and nutritionists. Because of this, you can be sure that what you are eating is nutritious.

Change in Lifestyle

By signing up with the program, little by little, your eating lifestyle will also change. Because you have gotten used to eating veggies, you will be craving for it even after the program.

Cancer, Diet and Global Warming With the Producer of Healing Cancer From the Inside Out

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni's Renegade Roundtable, which can be found at http://www.RenegadeRoundtable.com. In this excerpt, Mike Anderson shares on cancer, diet and global warming.

Renegade Water Secrets with Mike Anderson, is a medical researcher, author of The Rave Diet and film maker/producer of "Eating" and "Healing Cancer from the Inside Out."

Kevin: So, Mike. If all this stuff isn't working, what is?

Mike: Food. I site some studies in the film... the Office of Technology Assessment funded the Gerson Therapy. It beat the pants off conventional treatments. This was in different stages of melanoma. It just beat the pants off of conventional treatments. They don't like these studies. They don't want to fund them. It's very hard.

Macrobiotics went in front of the NIH, National Institute of Health and they tried to get funding because they presented six terminal cases, cancer case s, where the cancers were totally reversed. They were all biopsied and they were all confirmed and everything. Now, wouldn't you think that people should be interested in this? That they should fund more studies? No, they can't get any money for anymore funding for any.

You know allopathic medicine doesn't, their history is to shut down any nutritional approach because they are so threatened by it. Even, this was around the turn of the century, 2001 or so. It's on the website, the Sushi Institute. Anyway, they're totally threatened because it does work. It is more effective. Instead of destroying the body, you're trying to build it up.

I specifically included Macrobiotics because they have a long history, 100- year history. In fact, the founder of Macrobiotics reversed cancer. But they have a long history of reversing cancers. So I look at Macrobiotics and that's almost 100% cooked. Then I look at raw, and that's 100% raw, uncooked. And I think the bottom line here is that, the common ground is that they are all plant-based, 100% plant-based. They are all organic. Organic is very, very important because organic food is much higher in micronutrients, the anti-oxidant families. Those are the ones that are going to fight cancer effectively. It's a whole-foods organic diet and that's it. Whether it's raw or whether it's cooked is partly personal preference, in terms of case and stuff.

Kevin: You knew that this film was going to cause some waves. So, one, how did you prepare for it? Two, what kind of feedback have you gotten from people who were not happy?

Mike: I actually did not prepare very much for it. What I did was try and make it as credible as I can and close the loop on all the arguments. To make it as tight as possible. I'll tell you a story. I don't know if Brian Clement wants me to tell this or not, he was interviewed in the film, but he and his wife watched it for seven h ours, seven hours looking for a loophole. They were primarily looking at some angle conventional doctors could use to attack me and they couldn't find it. So my approach was just make it as tight as possible and as credible as possible. As a result of that, I haven't had much negative feedback except that people don't want to talk to me.

I have been on KPFK, they are a nonprofit, local station here in L.A. I've been on there and they were very receptive and so was the audience. I mean, people are hungry for this new. But getting it out there is very, very difficult.

People will say, "Oh, my gosh. You should be on major news shows," and stuff like that. And I say, "Well, have you looked at the sponsors of those news shows? They'll never have me on." You know, you've got meat and dairy and drugs and I'm preaching against all of those. So, it's difficult to get it out, but word of mouth is extraordinarily strong; it's pushing this whole thing. And than ks to shows like your and others, more and more people are getting on the bandwagon.

I was at the Raw Spirit Festival in Sedona this weekend and I had a lady and her husband come out, specifically to see me. They flew out from Tampa. And it was because they saw "Healing Cancer" a month ago. Her father started off with colon cancer, it spread to his liver, now it's in his lungs. He's had one round of chemo; he couldn't take it anymore. So they were looking for something. They put him on the diet and within a month all of his cancer markers had dropped dramatically. They were just thrilled by the whole thing. They wanted to fly out and just thank me because of it.

The strange thing is most people they have it in their mind that cancer is this dreaded disease that kills people. Well, you know, cardio vascular disease kills over twice as many people a cancer, that's a pretty scary disease. But people have it in their minds that cancer is more scary, but it's not. It can be controlled through food. People have this idea that, well, gee, cancer's a dangerous disease you need strong medicine. You need something that will make people's hair fall out and make them throw up all day for days on end and make them just sick. That's strong medicine. You need just the opposite. You need something that's going to build up the body. People, if they'll get off this toxic diet they're on and get on a good diet, they'll see miraculous things happening. Not just with cancer, but the whole body will be healing.

Kevin: Let's talk a little bit about the Rave diet. There's a lot of people who are on this call who don't know what that is. So, let's give a little bit of information on that and...

Mike: OK. I wrote the book primarily because people were asking me for something to accompany the "Eating" DVD. Because after they see the "Eating" DVD, they'll say, "OK, I'm ready to change my diet, but what do I do?" And even though I list, at the end of the film, all kinds of books, and on the website even more, they wanted something from me. So, I put it together primarily as a very short, it reads very easily, very short guide, if you will, to how to change to this diet.

I have a transitional diet, too, because sometimes it's difficult for people to go on the full Rave diet. So I have an easier transitional diet so they can evolve into it. One guy, for example, it was too much for him because he had been eating processed foods all of his life and he had horrendous gas because of all the fiber. So I tell people, "Ease up on it. You can go slowly," you know, unless you have some terrible disease you're fighting. But what it stands for, Rave is an acronym, it means no refined foods. The A is no animal foods, the V, which gets me in trouble with most people all the time, means no vegetable oils; the E means no exceptions and exercise. There are a number of sub-rules wit hin that. It's not just that acronym alone. Like, eat at least half of your food uncooked type of thing. Also ingredients lists, it's got a whole explanation of how to read ingredient lists and so forth. But it's done very well.

Kevin: No oil. Let's talk about that.

Mike: OK. I got this primarily, started out if you look at Ornish, Essylstyn, Furman, a lot of doctors who actually reversed heart disease and have studies to prove it; they all specifically exclude vegetable oils. There are clinical studies, it tears up the arteries. Essylstyn says it's as good for your arteries as roast beef. If you look at nutrient scales, the key to a good diet is getting the maximum amount of nutrients per calorie that you can. If you look at vegetable oils, they have the lowest nutrient value of any food on the planet. It's all fat, very few nutrient values per calorie on it.

It's a refined food, on top of it; the molecules in vegetable o ils are unstable. They produce free radicals. It's a promoter of some cancers, particularly skin cancers, and on and on and on. So, I just say there are substitutes for it. If you're cooking and you want to brown potatoes or something, use applesauce or apple juice or vegetable broth or something. You have to cook it slower, but it browns just as good. So, that's the schtook on vegetable oils. I'm telling people in the beginning with this, "Hey, you get on this you can reverse your heart disease." I'm not going to go against all the doctors who have proven successfully
through tests that you can reverse heart disease. They all exclude the vegetable oils.

Kevin: Yeah, I think it makes sense to follow the research of people that you have mentioned, like Furman and Essylstyn and these guys, instead of recreating the wheel on a theory.

Mike: Right, right. I have to follow; these guys are my heroes. I can't challenge them and I want t o, if someone comes out with a study of heart disease reversal which specifically includes vegetable oils, then I'll take a second look at it, as will they. But so far that hasn't happened.

Kevin: Who do you think you've learned the most from?

Mike: Geez, I don't know. That's hard. Everyone's saying the same thing, essentially, in different ways and they're doing their own thing. In the beginning, there were John Robbins, the emotional aspect of it, environmental, in particular. He was huge. McDougall, he was huge, too. He was giving all this reinforcement to the health. Then, of course, Fuhrman and Ornish and a number of others, Esselston. I would say probably McDougall and, in the very beginning, McDougall and John Robbins.

Kevin: Great. You mentioned global warming, again, and I think we should probably talk about that because it was an added portion of the film, "Eating." What are some of the implications of the way we eat, as related to global warming and the environment?

Mike: It's methane, that's the major thing that's been overlooked. I'm no expert in it, but what I did was summarize what the experts have said. It's hard for people to visualize this, but there are hundreds of millions of cows, and other livestock out there, that emit methane, both through the mouths and their rear ends. It goes into the atmosphere and methane is a powerful heat-trapper, much more powerful than carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide will stay in the atmosphere much longer, but methane really traps heat. Studies have shown that, in fact, methane has caused nearly half of the global warming to-date. The number one source of methane is the animals we raise and eventually eat. So, the good thing about methane is that it only stays in the atmosphere for eight years. If people would cut back on their consumption of animal products, you could recycle out very quickly. There cou ld be a more immediate impact on global warming, on cooling. That's not going to happen, but, say, everyone in the world cut back 1/3 of their meat consumption and reduced the livestock accordingly. That could have a major impact on global warming, and quite soon. Whereas carbon dioxide that stays in the atmosphere for so long. It's not going to have such an immediate impact on it and that's what we need is an immediate impact, because we're right there, as they call the tipping point.

The Kushi Macro Diet: Introducing the Wonders of Macrobiotics

If one is a big fan of Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow or pop icon Madonna or would consider the credibility of these two celebrities who also happens to be friends in real life, then one might go on for this Japanese diet as the two did before.

The Kushi Macro Diet was conceptualized by Michio Kushi, author of "The Macrobiotic Way". In the 1950s, Mr. Kushi and his wife opened a restaurant in New York City where the couple introduced macrobiotics through the meals they offer.

Foods have various effects on the body of people, and on these effects that macrobiotics concentrates. The Kushi Macro Diet proposes that people would eat the following foods:

  • vegetables (20-30%)
  • fish (white-meat fish only and some shellfish as well)
  • beans and sea vegetables (the kinds that are being used as sushi wrappers—both 5-10%)
  • whole grains (60%)
  • soy
  • < p>
  • nuts
  • soups (5-10%)
  • amasake (a kind delicious milk drink made out of brown rice)
  • In cooking foods, sesame oil and corn oil (preferably unrefined) are recommended).

Two foods that it doesn't advise people to have since according to Mr. Kushi will not promote good health are:

  • dairy products (butter, cow's milk, margarine)
  • refined grain cereals
  • meat
  • poultry
  • asparagus
  • spinach
  • eggplant
  • Also excluded form the diet are foods containing or made out of

    • refined sugar
    • curry spice
    • commercial soy sauce
    • pepper (red and green)

The Kushi Macro Diet primarily about balancing foods which is what macrobiotics is all about. There will be a meal plan t hat'll be spread on a period of seven consecutive days. Three meals in a day and there would be like 2,126 calories in one sample meal for a day (the good news is that snacks are allowed!).

There studies conducted in the past concerning how macrobiotics could be of grate help in lowering cholesterol level and blood pressure and even assisting in the treatment of cancer. Yes, that Big C. So, for those who are ready to take on this diet, then there are other important things you need to know at Diet Fads.

The Advantages of Slow Dieting

There is a certain mentality that says fast improvement is best for health situations. This conclusion doesn't necessarily stand up. Let's take the example of weight loss.

I just saw an ad that said, "Take off 21 pounds in 30 days." What do you think of that? Should one take off twenty pounds in a month? Wouldn't most of us opt for this fast route? Get it over. Look good, feel good and regain health all in just 30 days!

Have you known anyone who did that? And if you have, how did they seem four months later? There's the rub - fast loss leads to fast gain.

Check out some celebrities who've promoted the latest diets. Skinny one month and balloons a few months later.

Ask yourself how come there are hundreds and hundreds of diets floating around. Many of these diets call for entirely different foods. One is high on protein. Another is high on carbohydrates. This or that diet. Cabbage soup diet. Grapefruit diet. Macrobiotic diet. On and on.

Th e major reasons that most of these diets don't work long term are,

1. Not all bodies are the same. What's beneficial for one person may not be so for another.

2. Most diets do not contain what you want to eat. You can't wait to lose that twenty pounds so you can go back to eating what you enjoy.

3. Most diets are not healthy, so you end up malnourished while on them. Bodies are incredibly complex with millions of biochemical reactions occurring within them. These reactions require a wide variety of foods to supply all the factors necessary to run successfully.

4. During a fast weight loss diet, your body adjusts to ride out being starved, then when you finally begin feeding it normally again, it packs on the weight in anticipation of future starvation.

Fast weight loss diets work against health for the above reasons. So if we don't take the fast route, what road do we travel? You guessed it - lay back and cruise the two lane highways. Take that extra two days to get to LA.

This particularly holds true with high blood pressure diets where slow dieting is wise dieting, being effective in producing normal blood pressure.

Nevertheless, the slow method has its downside: No one will admire your suddenly shapely figure. You can't decide to go on a diet in June for your beach trip in July. After three months, your best friend will still urge you to join her or him on the latest fad diet sweeping the country. You won't be able to brag. People won't be able to admire the suddenly slender you.

Still when you step on the bathroom scale and see that you have lost two tenths of a pound five weeks in a row, you will smile with self assured confidence that you are controlling your future health. You will know where you are going. You will drive the car to L A.

When you get to LA, you will have permanently changed your diet and your health. You will live longer.

The slow diet is not a canned "miracle" diet. To do it requires persistence and knowledge because only you can make it work.

Too much weight is unhealthy. It leads to various illnesses that usually begin unnoticed in middle age. Sudden weight loss is unhealthy, too. It shocks the body. The body doesn't like that and tries to defeat you.

So, let's not obsess on weight loss. Relax, educate yourself, and take the slow road to health.
